A New York judge ordered Silvio Scaglia to be arrested and jailed for 20 days after he failed to show up in court, and failed to pay nearly $300,000 to his ex-wife, fashion exec Julia Haart.

In 2023, New York State Supreme Court judge Douglas E. Hoffman told Scaglia to pay Haart $300,000, and send it to her lawyers by Jan. 11, or he’d be in contempt. However, the money never showed up. Then the judge told Scaglia to appear in court in person on June 5 to face the contempt rap. Despite facing jail time and his passport being revoked, Scaglia never showed.

Nancy Chemtob, Haart’s attorney said, “Ms. Haart feels vindicated by Judge Hoffman’s decision to issue an arrest warrant for Mr. Silvio Scaglia.  Mr. Scaglia thumbed his nose at the court by failing to appear in court today knowing that Judge Hoffman would be revoking his driver’s license, passport and finding him in contempt of court resulting in jail time.  Mr. Scaglia is evading justice.”
