Welcome to the season of summer spats, when fine weather and free time foster fun, togetherness and friction between even the most loving couples. The summer season also happens to be the peak season for fighting, lying and even cheating on your significant other.

Divorce attorney Nancy Chemtob notes that August is one of the busiest times of the year for divorce lawyers. “If a person is going to have a fling, it usually starts in the summer,” Chemtob points out. According to Chemtob, it is important to know when an argument is becoming heated and knowing how to calm down. A few tips to keep your cool are, do something that removes you from the immediate situation and gives some extra perspective. Drink a glass of water or wash your face to cool down. Think about what you’re going to say and how you’re going to say it.
