According to Sue Moss, pet nuptials or pet-prenups are becoming more common among couples. Pet-prenups are essentially a written agreement concerning who gets to keep the pet in the event of a separation.
Moss explains that pets need to be treated like property, as opposed to children, so that they can be fairly assigned to one of the spouses. She also noted that pets should follow where the children end up.
